Bursa injection image.jpeg

A bursa is a fluid filled sac that is strategically located at points of friction between tendons and bones. The most notable ones are in the shoulder and hip. If movement is abnormal for whatever reason, the excessive friction can irritate or inflame the bursa. This presents with point tenderness or pain at the extreme ranges of motion. A bursa injection may be an option to address the pain. Typically, a combination of a steroid and anesthetic is easily injected into the bursa that is affected. While this may help temporarily, it is important to address the dysfunctional motion of the joint or it will likely reoccur.
