DID YOU KNOW....that this is what a herniated disk looks like on an MRI? While not always necessary, an MRI is the gold standard to visualize a herniated disk. This patient presented with low back and right leg pain. The ⭕️ area is the location of the disk where it’s pressing on the nerve. I typically look at these two views, the axial or cross-section (right) and saggital or lateral (left). As I am a visual person, I place a lot of importance on going over these images with the patient. Making decisions about treatment is best when approached as a team. And when my patient can identify the source of their pain, they are more motivated and more compliant with the treatment plan. Why not strive for the best outcome?
